We Are Undone is the fifth studio album by the San Francisco indie rock/americana duo Two Gallants (Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel), released in February 2015. The album bridges the gap between the band's raw, folk-inflected early roots and the heavier, more aggressive electric blues-rock they leaned into on their later records. The first half features driving, gritty garage rock stomp and fuzzy, high energy swagger, driven by Stephens' ragged, impassioned vocals and chunky guitar lines alongside Vogel's muscular drumming. As the record progresses, it shifts into a more expansive, dynamic territory. Incorporating brooding, atmospheric slow-burners, eerie piano-led laments, and stark, rootsy folk numbers. Lyrically, expect a dark, weary, and deeply reflective tone, grappling with themes of personal regret, human helplessness, the loss of artistic authenticity, and the rapid commercial gentrification of their native San Francisco.
