About Us

Welcome and thanks for hopping by! My name is Channing. Grumpy Frog Records is my brainchild and ultimate passion project. Since I was a wee lad  I have always been interested in music (see above with my AWESOME Walkman) and being involved in contributing to other's enjoyment of music. I used to 'borrow' my Dad's CDs and smuggle them into my middle school art class (until my teacher unknowingly let him know she appreciated the music I was bringing in every week). I still remember the first CD/Tape store I visited as a kid, Premium Audio (RIP) in Winnemucca, NV and I've been fortunate enough to visit a number of records stores around the globe. In a world where streaming and instant gratification is constantly at our fingertips whenever and wherever we want it. It's a rarity that the majority of people sit down and intentionally take in an entire record in the way it was intended. That's where I see an opportunity! To this day, I love sitting down with a new album, disconnecting from the virtual world and listening to it front to back as intended, holding the cover art in my hands, reading lyrics in the booklet/insert, seeing which musicians took part in the record, etc... This is something the likes of Spotify or Apple Music has yet to master and likely never will. 

I love record stores! They are a magical place and deserve to be treated as such, so at the end of 2025 I decided I finally want to make good on introducing more music to more people. While GFR is only online right now, a brick and mortar store in Wake Forest, NC (or surrounding areas) is in my sights and will be part of the plan for 2027! There are lots of things in motion and will keep everyone updated but for now, browse our inventory, let me know your feedback, if you need a suggestion, or just want to shoot the shit about music!
