I wanted to create a dedicated space for some artists/bands we have been jamming to lately and (hopefully) introduce some new and interesting music in your life. So this is that space. Look out for consistent monthly updates as more music rolls through the pond! Love something, hate something? Let us know!!

Pray for Sound

Let me start off by saying that finding a good Post-Rock band is fairly easy these days. The genre is full of talented song writers and equally talented musicians. Now, that I've prefaced this appropriately, there are a select few that elevate the genre beyond good, straight into the 'S' tier discussion. Pray for Sound from Boston, MA are one of those select few. Formed in 2011, Pray for Sound has released six stellar soundscapes starting with 2012's Monophonic which is an emotionally turbulent sound construct that takes the listener on a journey through Bruce's bout with severe hearing loss and all of the struggles that came from his cholesteatoma diagnosis. With each release the band continues to fine tune their ever growing ability to bring the listener into their orbit and be a part of something that allows us to connect with them on a highly emotional and thought provoking journey. Whether these compositions will make you feel hopeful, longing for a love long forgotten, etc. they never tug at your thoughts or heartstrings longer than necessary. They seem to find just the right timing to keep depth without losing the listener or momentum as the songs marches on. This is what separates Pray for Sound from others in the genre and its only achievable by the best of the best in post-rock.
I would urge anyone who is remotely interested in the post-rock genre to take a journey through their discography. Everything is Beautiful and Waves are essential listening as you can witness the transformation and growth of the band in real time.
Personally, I was late to the party but instantly fell in love with this band after listening to their 2024 album Nightswimming which remains one of my favorite Post-Rock releases. Absolutely a candidate for the GFR Hall of Fame.
Pray for Sound has recently released a live album of their 2025 POST. Festival performance which is available on their bandcamp page. It is an excellent set of songs that transports you directly to their amazing POST. Fest set. More importantly here is that 100% of the bandcamp sales for this record go to their extraordinarily skilled drummer Steve who is going through chemotherapy. You got this Steve!
Pray for Sound is: Steve Aliperta, Joe Aylward, Thomas Berak, Bruce Malley & Nick Stewart
