More Info:

Originally slated as their 2003 major-label follow-up to Subject to Change before getting shelved amid Immortal Records label turmoil, Switched's Ghosts in the Machine finally surfaced in 2006 on frontman Ben Schigel's own Imagen Records. Recorded at Cleveland's Spider Studios, the album documents the Ohio outfit evolving far beyond early-2000s rap-metal formulas, doubling down on a much darker, heavier brand of alternative metal and post-grunge urgency.

Sonically, the record pairs thick, drop-tuned guitar riffing from B.C. Kochmit and Joe Schigel with punchy, live-room drum production, layered underneath subtle industrial synth atmospheres and mechanical samples. Ben Schigel puts his full vocal range on display, moving seamlessly between raw, throat-tearing hardcore bellows and massive, soaring melodic hooks on standout tracks like "Save Yourself," "Walk Away," and "Incomplete." The tracklist also includes the band's notably heavy, pummeling reimagining of 10cc's classic "I'm Not in Love." It sounds gritty, aggressive, and melodically potent, serving as an authentic time capsule of mid-2000s American hard rock that hits with far more muscle, emotional gravity, and polish than the label disputes that delayed it ever suggested.
