No record in rock history carries the kind of mythological baggage that Chinese Democracy does. Fourteen years in the making, tens of millions of dollars in studio bills, and a revolving door of elite musicians (Robin Finck, Buckethead, etc..) by the time Axl Rose finally dropped this in 2008, the world was expecting either a punchline or a disaster. Love it or hate it, it’s a singular, obsessive piece of rock history that sounds massive on a proper system. Forget the decades of studio lore, drop the needle, and appreciate it for the sheer sonic spectacle it actually is.
