More Info:
Originally released in 1985 and given an audiophile remaster on this Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab vinyl pressing, The Sisters of Mercy’s First and Last and Always remains the undisputed monolith of gothic rock and dark post-punk. Produced by Dave Allen, the record is built upon the rigid, danceable heartbeat of "Doktor Avalanche" (their iconic Oberheim DMX drum machine), coated in Craig Adams' thick, chorus-drenched basslines and the interlocking, crystalline 12-string acoustic and electric guitar chime of Wayne Hussey and Gary Marx. Hovering over this icy architecture is Andrew Eldritch’s cynical, smoke-cured baritone, turning genre-defining tracks like "Black Planet," "No Time to Cry," and "Marian" into pitch-black anthems of subterranean groove, dread, and hypnotic style that sound wider and punchier than ever on the MoFi cut.
