More Info:
Two Guys Of Them is an ultra-obscure slice of late-1980s Canadian new wave and jangle-pop minimalism. Operating out of the Ontario indie circuit, the duo of singer/guitarist Ian Carter and multi-instrumentalist Scott McTaggart bypassed the glossy, gated-reverb synth bombast of the late MTV era to build something far sparser, wiry, and direct. Cut at 45 RPM across four tight tracks, the record pairs clean, chorus-drenched Rickenbacker and Fender chime with melodic, upfront basslines, punctuated by punchy drum machine patterns and live percussion fills. Tracks like "If Only She Were Like You" and "Teflon Man" channel the earnest vocal cadences and rhythmic hooks of The Smiths, early R.E.M., and Aztec Camera, while darker guitar textures on the B-side carry faint echoes of post-punk gloom. Running on pure DIY passion and budget 8-track studio charm, the EP captures that quintessential mid-’80s indie spirit—melodic, unpretentious, and driven by infectious, jangly guitar pop.
