More Info:
Attack The Block represents an exhilarating, genre-mashing collaboration between future Academy Award-winning composer Steven Price and electronic dance music legends Basement Jaxx (Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe). Tasked with sonically capturing a group of South London teenagers defending their council estate against an invasion of predatory alien beasts, the composing team bypassed traditional Hollywood orchestral cliches to craft an adrenaline-pumping fusion of vintage John Carpenter synth dread, heavy London dubstep, electro-house, and muscular contemporary symphonic scoring. Subterranean sub-bass wobbles, distorted analog synthesizer arpeggios, and aggressive hip-hop breakbeats collide with brass stabs and eerie, dissonant string textures on centerpiece cues like "Sam is Safe," "The Block," "Get the Fireworks," and "Moses the Hero." The music perfectly channels the urban grit and kinetic tension of the film, capturing both the claustrophobic dread of dark tower block corridors and the heroic, swaggering defiance of John Boyega’s Moses. Mastered across four sides of vinyl with tremendous bass authority, the low-end frequencies hit with club-level physical impact while the biting synthesizer transients cut through the mix with sparkling clarity, cementing this collaborative effort as one of the most innovative, adrenaline-fueled British film scores of the 2010s.
