More Info:
Static-X’s fifth studio album, Cannibal, stands as the most stripped-down, aggressively metal entry in the band’s catalog. Rebounding from the melodic alt-metal detours of Shadow Zone and Start a War, frontman Wayne Static declared it their heaviest record yet—and it sounds like it. The album heralded the studio return of original lead guitarist Koichi Fukuda, notably injecting searing, shred-heavy guitar solos and squealing thrash leads (including a blazing guest solo from John 5 on the title track) directly into Static-X’s patented "evil disco" machinery. Driven by Nick Oshiro’s pummeling double-kick barrage and Tony Campos’s distorted, subterranean basslines, tracks like "Destroyer," "No Submission," and "Behemoth" trade club friendly synth dance beats for relentless, mechanized speed and razor sharp, staccato down picked chugs. Topped with Wayne’s signature gravel-throated bark and hyper-rhythmic vocal cadences, Cannibal sounds lean, mean, and utterly bloodthirsty a ferocious collision of industrial rhythm and unfiltered 1980s thrash energy.
