More Info:
Horizons stands as Starset’s most ambitious, dark, and technically realized cinematic rock odyssey. Masterminded by frontman and conceptual architect Dustin Bates alongside co-producer and mixer Joe Rickard, the band’s fourth studio outing digs deep into a dystopian sci-fi world dominated by algorithmic control, transhumanism, and neural networks. Sonically, the record takes the band’s hybrid "cinematic rock" framework to crushing new extremes, integrating polyrhythmic eight-string djent riffs, thundering electronic bass drops, and jagged industrial synthesis directly against sweeping, Hollywood-caliber string sections orchestrated by Paul Buckmaster disciples and atmospheric film-score textures. Tracks like "The Breach," "Earthrise," and "Infected" highlight Bates’ dynamic vocal delivery, moving fluidly from soaring, anthemic space-rock choruses to distorted, venomous guttural screams. Meanwhile, complex progressive structures on cuts like "Devolution" and "Something Wicked" showcase intricate drum patterns, glitchy synth programming, and razor-sharp guitar interplay from Jasen Rauch and Brock Richards. Pressed across four sides of vinyl with expansive dynamic range, the physical cut allows the low-end sub frequencies and intricate symphonic layers to breathe with massive stereophonic separation, cementing Horizons as an expansive, cybernetic rock masterpiece.
