Primordial’s eighth studio album, Where Greater Men Have Fallen, is a towering monument of pagan black metal and epic, doomed Celtic grandeur. Recorded at Grouse Lodge Studios in rural Ireland with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano, the record trades over-polished modern metal sheen for an earthy, monolithic live room sound driven by crushing, minor-key tremolo riffs, marching battle-cadence percussion, and sweeping 6/8 and 3/4 rhythmic swells. Vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga delivers one of his most theatrically commanding performances to date, shifting seamlessly between desperate, raspy snarls and blood-curdling, operatic clean wails that sound like a general howling over a bloodied battlefield. Across massive, slow-building anthems like the thunderous title track, the mournful "Babel's Tower," and the hypnotic, blast-beat-punctuated "Ghosts Before the Gallows," the record feels less like an ordinary metal album and more like an ancient, tragic history play steeped in historical collapse, defiance, and existential grief.
