More Info:
Orgy’s Candyass crystallized a brand-new hybrid subgenre the band dubbed "death pop," fusing late-1990s nu-metal heaviness with slick, cyberpunk-laced 1980s synth-pop. Produced by Josh Abraham alongside the band at Hollywood Sound and NRG, the record's signature sonic fingerprint came from guitarists Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck abandoning traditional riffing in favor of Roland guitar synthesizers, custom DSP routing, and TC Electronic processors, blurring the line between electric guitar and aggressive analog sequencing. Anchored by Bobby Hewitt’s mechanical, dance-floor-ready drum grooves and Paige Haley’s distorted basslines, tracks like "Stitches," "Fiend," "Fetisha," and their platinum-selling overhaul of New Order’s "Blue Monday" charge forward with cold digital precision and relentless hook power. Frontman Jay Gordon conducts the neon dystopia with an effortless balance of breathy, glam-goth croons and filtered, throat-shredding screams, delivering a sleek, chrome-plated industrial rock record that sounds as indebted to Depeche Mode and Duran Duran as it is to drop-tuned alternative metal.
