More Info:
Disparity marks the explosive, long-awaited third studio album from Birmingham progressive metalcore titans Oceans Ate Alaska. Arriving after a grueling five-year hiatus, the record reunites the band with original vocalist James Harrison, whose return injects their chaotic formula with razor-sharp vocal dexterity ranging from ferocious guttural lows to piercing fry screams and polished melodic hooks. The production, helmed self-reliantly alongside longtime engineer and mixer George Lever, is an exhilarating technical gauntlet that pushes the boundaries of modern mathcore and djent. Drummer Chris Turner acts as the hyper-kinetic heartbeat of the record, laying down staggering polyrhythms, lightning-fast double-bass runs, and intricate blast beats that lock tightly with Chris Adamx’s snarling, down-tuned basslines. Guitarists James Kennedy and Adam Zytkiewicz construct a labyrinth of jagged eight-string riffs, glitchy tapping sequences, and dizzying time-signature shifts, yet seamlessly weave in atmospheric synths, ambient post-rock lulls, and Japanese traditional instrumentation on standout tracks like "Metamorph," "Nova," and "Sol." Pressed to vinyl with exceptional transient response and razor-sharp dynamic separation, the master delivers chest-caving breakdown weight without muddying the dizzying, high-velocity fretwork, standing as a triumphant, relentlessly inventive masterclass in modern progressive metal.
