More Info:
Nothing’s full-length debut, Guilty of Everything, remains the defining pillar of modern heavy shoegaze. Emerging from the Philadelphia hardcore scene following frontman Domenic Palermo’s release from prison, the record took the hazy, dreamlike textures of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive and collided them head-on with the grim fatalism and suffocating, physical volume of extreme music. Tracked by Jeff Zeigler at Uniform Recording, the album constructs an impenetrable, monolithic wall of sound. Palermo and Brandon Setta run multiple layers of fuzz, heavy reverb, and tape delay into roaring, tube-driven half-stacks, delivering seismic riffs that feel like an avalanche collapsing in slow motion. Beneath the sonic haze, Nick Bassett’s rumbling bass and Kyle Kimball’s heavy, pounding drum work provide an anchor that keeps tracks like "Hymn to the Pillory," "Bent Nail," "Dig," and the devastating title cut locked into visceral, chest-caving grooves rather than floating off into ambient vapor. Gliding through the distortion, Palermo’s buried, ethereal whisper sung vocals deliver tales of grief, addiction, and existential defeat, turning profound nihilism into breathtaking, hypnotic beauty. Under the needle, this anniversary master lets the low-end churn hit with crushing weight while keeping the shimmering guitar overtones sharp and immersive a modern heavy alternative benchmark running on pure catharsis.
