More Info:
New York Dolls’ sophomore outing, Too Much Too Soon, captures the Lower Manhattan glam-punk pioneers teetering brilliantly on the knife-edge between street-level genius and total chemical combustion. Enlisting veteran 1960s pop and girl-group producer George "Shadow" Morton (famed for his cinematic work with The Shangri-Las) to corral their chaotic energy, the album trades some of Todd Rundgren's metallic crunch from the debut for a punchier, jukebox-ready blast of lipstick-smeared rhythm and blues. Morton embraced their grit while layering in slapback echo, girl-group backing chirps, honking baritone sax, sound effects, and jangly piano.
