More Info:
Composed by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of the Austin synth outfit S U R V I V E, the score for Stranger Things 2 expands on the analog magic of their breakout debut by plunging into darker, more menacing territory. The sonic blueprint remains rooted in late 70s and 80s electronic cinema, channeling the tense, dread-soaked textures of John Carpenter, Tangerine Dream, and Fabio Frizzi. Built using an arsenal of vintage modular synthesizers, Roland sequencers, and analog filters, the palette balances lush, bittersweet nostalgia with creeping body horror. Warm, shimmering arpeggios capture fragile childhood camaraderie on tracks like "Walkin in Hawkins" and "Eulogy," but these moments are repeatedly swallowed by suffocating, low-end drone work, distorted synth bass, and metallic electronic percussion on ominous cuts like "The Hub" and "The Mind Flayer." The result sounds deeply cinematic, claustrophobic, and evocative, delivering a retro-futuristic score that pulses with eerie dread, neon gloom, and haunting emotional resonance.
