More Info:
The Skipper is a spiritual jazz and hard-bop tour de force. Before stepping out as a bandleader, Los Angeles double bassist Henry Franklin earned his stripes providing the bedrock groove for luminaries like Hugh Masekela, Freddie Hubbard, and Archie Shepp. On this debut, he assembled an elite West Coast septet featuring Charles Owens on soprano/tenor sax, Oscar Brashear on trumpet, Kenny Climax on electric guitar, Bill Henderson on electric and acoustic piano, and Michael Carvin behind the kit.
