More Info:
I Am Whole stands as a sweeping, emotionally cathartic sophomore full-length from Swiss instrumental post-rock quartet Glaston. Eschewing the conventional guitar-centric blueprint of the genre, the Basel- and Zurich-based outfit elevates the acoustic piano to the role of lead storyteller, anchoring their cinematic soundscapes in classical romanticism and modern minimalism. Recorded and mixed with crystalline separation by Philippe Brand at Soundfarm Studios, the arrangements build breathtaking dynamic arcs that transition from hushed, contemplative piano motifs to seismic, wall-of-sound crescendos. Pianist Selina Brenner weaves fluid, emotive arpeggios that intertwine with delicate violin flourishes, while the rhythm section of bassist Timo Beeler and drummer David Preissel provides muscular progressive rock weight, driving time-signature shifts, heavy tom fills, and subterranean low-end thud into euphoric climaxes on standout compositions like "Better Days," "Tears," "Game," and the surging title track. Pressed across a lavish double-LP gatefold edition with silent backgrounds and massive dynamic headroom, the analog mastering preserves every delicate hammer strike of the piano felt and room reverberation before exploding into panoramic, chest-rattling post-rock grandeur, solidifying I Am Whole as a breathtaking triumph of piano-led cinematic rock.
