More Info:
Flowers of Evil stands as a razor-wire blast of paranoid, urban punk minimalism. Featuring an underground pedigree that intersects with acts like Ivy, The Men, and Dawn of Humans, the NYC four-piece rejects retro post-punk polish in favor of a hostile, claustrophobic sound directly indebted to 1970s and early 1980s UK and US precursors like Wire, Warsaw, The Fall, and Negative Approach. The production is deliberately arid, jagged, and direct, stripping away reverb to let the raw room sound and distorted amplifier sizzle dominate the mix. Driven by relentless, deadpan rhythms and brittle basslines that pulse with nervous kinetic anxiety, guitarist and songwriter Stefan Lilov lays down jagged, economic chord slashes that slice cleanly across the stereo field. Frontman Dan Shuey delivers his vocals in a venomous, barking snarl, spitting caustic broadsides on urban decay, psychological alienation, surveillance, and claustrophobia across blistering tracks like "MTA," "City of Fear," "Introvert," and "Cellular Suicide." Pressed to vinyl with stinging midrange bite and tight, percussive transients that hit without an ounce of sonic fat, this LP delivers a relentlessly sharp, authentic document of modern New York hardcore operating with cold, calculated precision.
