More Info:
Another World is Queen guitarist Brian May’s second solo studio album, originally conceived as a covers project before evolving into a deeply personal, emotionally charged rock record born out of personal loss and reflection. Sonically, it is defined by May’s unmistakable guitar orchestration: soaring, multi-layered harmonies courtesy of his homemade "Red Special," saturated VOX AC30 chime, and thunderous, blues-infused hard rock riffing. The record is driven by the explosive, powerhouse drumming of the late Cozy Powell, marking one of his final studio performances before his untimely death. Stylistically, the album balances ferocious, fist-pumping hard rock anthems like "Business" and "Cyborg" with grand, symphonic arena-rock ballads such as "Why Don't We Try Again" and the reflective title track, alongside inspired reinterpretations of Hendrix ("One Rainy Wish"), Mott the Hoople ("All the Way from Memphis"), and Larry Williams ("Slow Down"). Topped off by May’s warm, earnest lead vocals and lush, Queen-style vocal choirs, the album sounds expansive, nostalgic, and triumphant, celebrating the fiery guitar heroism of classic 1970s rock while carving out a cathartic journey through resilience and reinvention.
